The Relationship Between Somatization and Depression Types: Comparison of Unipolar Depression and Bipolar Depression

Objective: Somatic symptoms are more likely to be present in depression and anxiety, which causes waste medical resources due excessive hospital addmissions. It has been observed that the unclarity of qualitative quantitative characteristics somatization depending on type influences clinical practice less than expected. In study, it was aimed determine hallmarks somatic groups investigate factors might have an effect symptoms.
 Method: One hundred consecutive patients (50 with Bipolar Depression (BD), 50 Unipolar (UD)) who met criteria participated study. Patients were assessed for depressive Montgomery Asberg Scale Bradford Symptom Inventory. Clinical features obtained by clinician via Sociodemographic Data Form.
 Results: found no significant difference between groups. (p> .05). symptom severity higher UD group presence psychiatric comorbidity (p= .013), but not BD. Another prominent finding noted only predictor severe somatization.
 Conclusion: The results show increased associated depression, suggesting treatment rather differential diagnosis should primary concern.
